Dear teacher friends,
It is that time of year again!
You might be excited, nervous, or maybe dreading the back to school season. For many of you the first day is tomorrow and you will be faced with a new group of young people you will be responsible for, for the next year. It is going to be fun, and amazing, and at times stupidly hard. You’re going to wonder why you get up to go to such a thankless job at times. You’re going to be tempted to give up on that one kid who just can’t seem to get with the program; and you’re going to wonder why you put so much time and effort and money to ensure your students have what they need. You’re going to worry about them, feel pride in them, and when you have that one perfect moment when everything clicks you will remember why it is you do what you do. Hold on to that moment. In those times things seem bleak and you feel like you can’t possibly be making a difference, can’t possibly give another ounce of yourself, remember how blessed you are to have the position you do- to do what you do. Remember that there are great teachers and educators out there that weren’t lucky enough to get the job, the privilege, you have and who would trade places with you in a second. Yes, you’re going to have your ups and downs, but you can do it.
You do make a difference, it is worth it, and you are amazing for rising to the challenge.
Happy back to school!
